In-Home Dementia and Alzheimer's Care Across the GTA

Good dementia care is built on consistency. Our PSWs focus on the daily structure and gentle support that helps people living with dementia feel calmer and safer at home. Predictable days reduce anxiety, so caregivers maintain familiar mealtimes, activities, and rest periods, and use environmental cues to keep the day on track. They watch for restlessness and the late-day confusion known as sundowning, responding with calm redirection and a steady presence rather than confrontation.

Caregivers also provide timely medication reminders to help your loved one stay on schedule — please note we provide reminders only and do not administer medication. S Care Companion is a PSW-only agency. We do not employ or place registered nurses, RPNs, LPNs, or any other regulated health professionals. Our focus is entirely on personal support — the steady, hands-on help that makes daily life with dementia more manageable.

Dementia care asks more of a caregiver than almost any other type of in-home support. It requires patience, calm under pressure, and the ability to read a person's mood and needs without being told. That's why our vetting standards matter.

Every PSW on our roster has completed college-level PSW training (following the Ontario PSW Program Standard), passed a Vulnerable Sector police check, holds current First Aid and CPR certification, and is selected through personality and communication matching. Personal Support Workers are not regulated in most Canadian provinces, which is why the bar we set internally is so important — the standard is whatever the agency chooses to enforce.

S Care Companion carries general liability insurance covering all placements, and is WSIB-compliant.

For dementia clients especially, matching is about temperament as much as credentials. Before confirming a placement, we ask about communication preferences, language, daily routine, and the behaviours your family is navigating, so the caregiver who arrives is genuinely suited to your loved one. We also prioritise consistency — keeping the same caregiver in place wherever possible, because familiarity itself is part of the care.

Private home care in the GTA typically runs $30 to $35 per hour CAD as a market estimate (not S Care's published rate). For context, Ontario PSWs themselves earn a median wage of $22 per hour per Job Bank Canada NOC 44101, with the Toronto Region median at $21. Pricing varies by how much support is needed, how often visits occur, and shift structure — hourly care, overnight, live-in, and 24-hour arrangements are each priced differently. All S Care Companion services are billed in CAD. We aim to be transparent about pricing from the first conversation — no hidden fees and no ambiguity about what's included. Some families cover costs through long-term care insurance, retirement savings, or shared family contributions; others fund care out of pocket. Our job is to make sure you understand your options clearly so you can decide what's right.
